Relive the cherished memories of O’Flaherty’s Irish Channel Pub, a beloved gathering spot on Toulouse Street in the heart of the French Quarter, New Orleans. Though it closed its doors after Hurricane Katrina, the spirit of O’Flaherty’s lives on in the hearts of those who attended its lively events over the years.

This special 11×9 print showcases the exterior of the pub under a beautiful full moon, proudly displaying the flags of all seven Celtic nations. A familiar sight can be seen outside the entrance to the carriage way: Puca, the little white cat who loved Irish music, adding a touch of warmth and nostalgia to this enchanting scene.

Perfect for Every Fan:

Size: 11×9 inches

Price: $30 (price includes shipping/handling with Coupon Code – Slainte )

Whether you fondly remember the Celtic Christmas performances, St. Patrick’s Day celebrations, Gaelic lessons, or unforgettable nights in the ballad room, this print is a wonderful way to celebrate and preserve those memories. Step back in time, when the pub’s Ballad Room came alive with warmth, the melodies of folk music, camaraderie and charm in a place that was as much about community as it was culture. A little piece of Ireland in the heart of New Orleans.

All true Marines know of the exploits of The Magnificent Bastards in Vietnam and I feel privileged to call many of them comrades and friends. Their combat history can never be enhanced but it is truly memorialized and honored in Danny O’Flaherty’s new CD. Danny’s support of the Marine Corps of New Orleans, through his latter-day Tun’s Tavern equivalent, is known to thousands of Marines; as is his talent known and his patriotism appreciated by all who hear his ballads. There is a reason that the best of the Irish tradition survived horrible persecution and it is found in the talent of the Irish balladeer. That an Irish balladeer of Danny’s talent would sing of the history of the Magnificent Bastards of the 2nd Battalion, 4th Marines is a tribute to both the man and the Marines.

Danny O’Flaherty is an essentially Irish character with the Celtic love of words and music buried deep within his marrowbone. Many Irishmen reflect too well William Butler Yeats description: “Being Irish, he had an abiding sense of tragedy which sustained him through temporary periods of joy”.

Danny O’Flaherty, on the contrary, has an unquenchable enthusiasm for life and an indomitable spirit in the face of adversity.

Growing up in the West of Ireland nurtured this strength. It’s a wild, windswept landscape, not kind to the weak, and proves the old adage “that which doesn’t kill me makes me stronger”. It’s truer still in Danny’s case for even Hurricane Katrina and subsequent tempests were unable to dim his zest for life, for music, or his flair for enthralling an audience with his intense love of Celtic culture.

The long dark winter evenings gathered ’round the turf fire encouraged a thorough and diverse musical upbringing. The elders handed on the rich oral tradition; the astounding thousand-year-old poetic sagas and the Connaught love songs and dance tunes they had learned from their parents.

It’s a lasting legacy of wit, gaiety, and warmth which has carried Danny around the world. He still clings to the old traditional airs but is inspired, as in this new collection, to sing his own hear-felt compositions. The variety of emotions expressed in the fifteen songs on “He Believes in Me,” are adorned with, and rooted in, that distinctively Gaelic lyricism that survives in the DNA of Danny O’Flaherty.

Though he may call Jasper, Texas home these days and his French Quarter pub has been long eradicated from the sonic landscape, Danny O’Flaherty is as much a New Orleanian as he is an Irish ex-pat. His best outing to date could be very well subtitled “The Hurricane Memoirs” as much of this material was inspired by the worst one-two knockout punch (Katrina, Rita) this nation has ever witnessed. (O’Flaherty evacuated when Katrina come stomping in, then weeks later while on tour in Ireland, his southeast Texas-based family evacuated again to escape Rita.).

The disc’s crown jewel, “Coming Home to You,” was literally written when O’Flaherty and son Liam evacuated that black Sunday, making the Crescent City reference “Will we ever see you like you were before?” that much more chilling. “Here in the Heart of Our Memories” serves as the cathartic answer song as the chorus cries out, “My dear, my dear, there’s nothing to fear. / It’s time to start over again.” Possibly the only Gaelic language recount ever recorded, “Droch Sceal Go New Orleans” (“Bad New For New Orleans”) was actually recorded for Irish television so every Gaelic speaker, regardless of ability, could comprehend Katrina’s destructive wrath. Throughout, O’Flaherty touches upon Irish culture while consummating the imagery with warm, reassuring, Irish-accented vocals that hover above all.

Dear Friends,

All my life, I have wanted to record a group of songs that were meaningful…about things that I believe in. With “From the Heart”, I have finally been able to achieve this. Some of the songs I have written, others were written by friends, and still others were written by people who share my deep feelings and personal concerns.

Some of the songs are about love-love of another person, love of country; some are about respect, respect for the environment, respect for all people. We must all learn to love and respect.

This recording is a testimonial to what I believe and because of these beliefs, all that I am today. I hope you will enjoy listening as much as I have enjoyed singing them for you.
