There are some cities where music seems to live in the walls, and New Orleans has always been one of them. So it feels especially fitting that Danny O’Flaherty’s Celtic Christmas is returning to New Orleans on Saturday, December 19 at 2:00 PM at the beautiful Deutsches Haus.
For Danny, Celtic Christmas has never been simply a collection of Christmas songs. It is a journey home.
It is Christmas in the west of Ireland — the old songs remembered from childhood, family gathered close, stories told again because nobody ever really tires of hearing them, and that wonderful mixture of laughter and longing that seems to find its way into so much Irish music.
Through songs, stories and a bit of good Irish humour, Danny brings those memories to life and invites the audience into the kind of Christmas where the greatest gifts were often the simplest ones: a warm house, familiar faces, music in the room and somewhere to belong.
And this year, we’re adding something especially delicious.
Bácús Bakery will be joining us with a wonderful selection of Irish Christmas sweets and baked treats, bringing the tastes and aromas of an Irish Christmas to the afternoon as well. Come prepared to indulge — Christmas calories are between yourself and Santa. Follow Bácús Bakery on Facebook
Our hosts at Deutsches Haus have long celebrated the music, heritage and traditions brought to New Orleans by generations of immigrants, making it a particularly lovely home for an afternoon celebrating Irish Christmas traditions.
